Windows 7… Me likey.

windows7_logo Since this is a question I get asked all the time, I wanted to put it into writing about what my thoughts are on Windows 7. First of all, Vista was never that bad as everyone made it out to be. It was on my desktop since the day it was released until Windows 7 was released; I never had a problem with. On old hardware though, it was somewhat of a dog. But in Windows 7 all that has changed and is very snappy on older hardware. I give it a thumbs up and it even (gasp) gives Snow Leopard a run for its money. So if you are having reservations about upgrading, don't. This is the best version of Windows Microsoft has ever released.

I've been running the Release Candidate of Windows 7 for a few months and now have full versions on all my machines. Maybe I will give it a more in depth review of it soon.

XenServer now free. As in beer.

Exciting news for those who use XenServer, it is now free. I have been using the "previously free" version that did not allow simultaneous administration, resource pooling, and live relocation. I always wanted those features but did not have the budget to do so. March 25th is when this move takes place and you will be able to download a license key to reflect this change. Citrix is not hiding the fact that this is clearly to gain market share over VMware.

To grow the XenServer business faster, we want to get more value to customers, sooner, and get them to demand fulfillment of the upgrade functions in Citrix Essentials, in a more scaleable fashion.
